Climbing club in Colchester, based at the University of Essex. A club run by climbers, for climbers.

Come & Try

If you are 18 or over and completely new to climbing (or you feel you need to refresh your climbing skills before getting back into it) we hold induction sessions one week each month during our normal weekly meets.

The aim

The aim of these induction sessions is to introduce you to climbing, show you how to use climbing safety equipment and techniques to climb in a safe and enjoyable way.

How to book a place

If you're interested send us a message. Please give us your full name, email address and confirm you are over 18, and do the same for anyone else you are also applying for. Please bear with us if we do not reply straight away, we will get back to you as soon as we can.

We will then contact you when we have places available. Please understand that we have a limited amount of places each month, and demand is high, so there may be a delay before we can fit you in.

What to bring/wear

We have harnesses, ropes, and belay devices which you are welcome to use as part of the session cost. Please wear clothes which allow freedom of movement and the tightest trainers you have. You may also wish to bring a bottle of water.

Session and membership costs

The sessions cost £8 for non-members, which reduces to £5 upon joining the club.

Participation statements

"Colchester Climbing Club recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement."

"Please be aware and accept that those perceived of as ‘in charge’ are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, are not regarded by the club nor regard themselves as ‘technical experts’, but are amateur climbers with some experience who are happy to impart their knowledge and that any advice given be viewed with this in mind by the recipient."
